Food, Drink & Après-Ski

Sauze d'Oulx sits in Piedmont — one of Italy's finest culinary regions. From pizza to polenta, on-slope rifugi to lively après-ski bars, there's plenty to enjoy off the mountain too.

Piedmontese Cuisine

Sauze d'Oulx is in Piedmont — a region celebrated across Italy for the quality of its food and wine. This is the land of truffles, Barolo, Barbaresco, tajarin pasta and slow-cooked meat dishes.

Mountain resort cooking tends toward hearty, warming dishes: polenta, fonduta (the local version of fondue), braised meats and risotto. After a day on the slopes, a bowl of agnolotti del plin (small filled pasta) with a glass of Barolo is a genuine pleasure.

Prices in the village are typical for an Italian ski resort — roughly €10–€18 for pizza, €12–€20 for pasta, and €25–€40 per person for a sit-down meal at a mid-range restaurant. See our restaurant guide for more detail.

Eating on the Mountain

⛷ This section covers winter skiing content. Check back when the slopes open (typically December–April).

In summer, some of the Via Lattea rifugi are accessible on foot or by summer lift. These mountain huts typically serve light lunches — cold meats, cheese, simple pasta dishes — in spectacular settings.

Check vialattea.it/en/summer for which rifugi are open and accessible by lift during summer months.

💡 Tipping & paying in Italy

Tipping is not obligatory in Italy and is less common than in the UK or USA. A small tip (5–10%) is appreciated for good service at a sit-down restaurant, but not expected.

Most restaurants include a coperto (cover charge of approximately €1–3 per person) on the bill — this is normal. Card payment is widely accepted in resort, but it's wise to carry some cash for smaller establishments and mountain cafés.
